Julie Hockely has been working as an artist for over 30years. She has always used her art as a release to the stresses of her “day job” as the Vice President/IT Manger of Bluestone & Hockely Real Estate Services. “I create because it brings me joy. I love to bring metal and color together. Experimenting with new ideas and techniques are always pushing me forward.”
Originally working as a fiber artist Julie began to experiment with metal about five years ago and was hooked. She started taking classes at Clark Community College and then moved to Portland State University. There she spent four terms learning under Gunnar Adamovics. Working in her beautifully equipped shop, Julie creates jewelry in gold and silver, with occasional foray into other metals. She fabricates and casts using the lost wax method of casting, trying to incorporate stones and pearls where ever possible.
Julie is currently working on a line of ultra-modern style jewelry she calls “Fasten Sense” She is presenting it for the first time at the Creative Metal Guild Annual Sale in May.
Julie often volunteers her time to benefit the local community. Having organized many fundraising events as well as sitting on many boards. She currently sits on the board of the Creative Metal Guild of Oregon. She volunteers her time teaching sewing every week to 7th & 8th Graders at Metropolitan Leaning Center.
